Summary
Permia Sensing provides field testing to detect Red Palm Weevil (RPW) larvae in coconut palm trees. This insect is known to damage an estimated 10% of the world's coconut yield, which amounts to approximately £450 million per year. Because it has attacked about 40 palm species in 60 countries, the World Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) has declared RPW a global threat to the food industry. If RPW is detected within the first two weeks of infestation, chemical treatments are effective. Our field-tested IoT technology was created at the Morph Lab of the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London, a World Top 10 University in the United Kingdom.
