9 notable deals and things to know this week (2023 – week #44)

🇫🇷 ☕ Amatera, a French startup, raised €1.5M for its climate-resistant coffee crops. Through non-GMO breeding technology, it aims to create new varieties much faster than is possible today. Paulig, a Finnish food company, led the round.

🇩🇪🦟 FarmInsect, a German startup, raised €8M to commercialise its modular insect farms for animal feed.

🇫🇷 🚜 Farmitoo, a French marketplace dedicated to agricultural machinery, raised €2.5M. This is quite lower than the €10M raised two years ago, showing how complicated the funding ecosystem has become.

🇩🇪 🤖 GoodBytz, a German startup, raised €12M for its robotic kitchens.

🇺🇸 📉 Due to diminished consumer demand, ADM, a global food processing and commodities company, has decided to reevaluate its $300M investment plan for expanding alternative protein production.

🇺🇸 🧑‍🌾 Farmers Business Network, a startup that has developed a network to enable farmers to benefit from each other’s data and also a large agricultural marketplace, announced a partnership with ADM. Together, they aim to help farmers to have 2 million acres of US farmland moving to regenerative agriculture.

🇫🇷 🕹️ My Lovely Planet, a French startup, raised €2M for its crypto-based mobile game that merges fun and environmental consciousness. While not directly “foodtech”, we find this interesting as we believe that education (notably on the link between food and climate change) will be key to successfully transitioning to a more sustainable food system.

🇫🇷 🛰️ CarbonFarm, a French startup, raised €2.5M to commercialise its satellite monitoring solution for rice cultivation.

🇫🇷 💦 Osiris Agriculture, a French startup, raised €2.15M for its robotics-based irrigation solution.
