๐ฆย Withย 2 unicorns in one week, itโs definitely not the end of the world for FoodTech
๐ฎ๐ฉย ๐ eFishery, an Indonesian startup, raised $108M for its innovative aquaculture solutions that feed fish automatically. It is joining the club of FoodTech unicorns and hopes to serve more than one million aquaculture farms by 2025.
๐บ๐ธ๐งGradiant, a US-based startup, raised a $225M for its technology that reduce water usage for companies in pharma, food, but also semiconductors.
๐บ๐ธย ๐ฝ๏ธ Restaurant365, an American startup, raised $135M to expand its software platform which helps restaurants manage operations such as accounting, inventory, and workforce.
๐ฎ๐ชย ๐ฝ๏ธ Nory, an Irish startup, raised โฌ7M for its data-driven insight platform to optimize operations for restaurants.
๐ฎ๐ฑย ๐ฌย Incredo, formerly known as DouxMatok, raised $30M for its sugar alternative. It has developed a product based on real sugar, that creates the same taste, but which needs much smaller amounts (up to 50% less).
๐บ๐ธย ๐ฅ Vitabowl, an American startup, raised $3 million for its innovative approach to food as medicine. It delivers ready-to-eat meals which are planned by dietitians to match different needs.
๐ง๐ฌย โ Cupffee, a Bulgarian startup, raised โฌ1.8M for its edible coffee cup. For us, edible packaging is one of the worst idea ever developed by startups: it taste bad and it is too costly (and having hot coffee dripping on you from a cup is not the best of experience). But maybe this time, it will work.
๐ฎ๐ชย ๐บย A new law in Ireland will require alcoholic beverage makers to disclose on their packaging the amounts of calories and to warn consumers against cancer risk increase. It is the first country to adopt such a legislation. Letโs say that winemakers are not happy about that. This is again a new sign of the trend to link what we eat and our health, and how difficult the transition toward beter habits will be.
